The Mini 3 Pro and Mini 4 Pro are the two most common sub-250g drones on the secondhand market, and they look nearly identical in photos. Used buyers bounce between them constantly because the new-price gap was around $200 but the used gap is often less than $100. Here is how to pick, and how to check whichever one you buy.

What Actually Changed From 3 to 4

The Mini 4 Pro added omnidirectional obstacle sensing. The Mini 3 Pro senses forward, backward, and down; the 4 Pro adds lateral binocular vision so it sees sideways too, which matters more than people think when tracking shots drift toward trees. It also shoots 4K at 100 and 120 fps for slow motion, upgraded to the O4 transmission system with the RC 2 controller, and added 10-bit color and 60fps vertical shooting. The sensor size, weight, and flight character are essentially the same between them.

For pure image quality at normal frame rates, the gap is smaller than the marketing suggests. For obstacle safety and slow-motion work, the 4 Pro earns its premium.

How to Buy Either One Used

The used checks that decide everything on these two models:

• Gimbal smoothness. Record a slow pan and watch it back. A wobbling or clicking gimbal means a crash repair, and gimbal repairs on Minis cost a large fraction of the drone's value.
• Obstacle sensor calibration. Trigger the sensors deliberately with your hand near each face. A dead sensor cluster is common after repairs and kills the model's main selling point, especially the 4 Pro's side vision.

If both are available and the used gap is under $100, take the 4 Pro for the side sensing alone; you cannot retrofit it.
